From a file photo. Sorry!
Todd and I spent some time in May readying our pasture for grazing. On June 2, Thane brought over 9 cow/calf pairs to spend the summer eating grass.
As a reminder of the brighter and more palatable side of nature this rainbow (the most vivid one I can remember seeing) exhibits its ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet) characteristics over one of our neighbors devastated cattle sheds.
From the warm sands and water of Sanibel Island, Florida, to the cold, windswept plains of South Dakota (that condition is only temporary at this time of year), is a trip that must be taken if one is to enjoy Easter and the first rain showers in the north. Variety is definitely the spice of life!
May brought two vicious storms to eastern South Dakota. Both of them did a lot of damage to our grove. We lost over a dozen large trees plus branches of others and, as pictured, one of them fell on top of our lone grain bin. On the bright side, none of our buildings were hit and Roberta and I suffered no injuries!
GOIN' BACK NORTH
It was a great feeling to place the last paver
Various home projects must be done whether it is in the north or south. For some unexplained reason our driveway had developed a dip just outside the door. After looking at it for a couple of years I decided the repair was something I could do fairly easily (WRONG!). One day when Inger was visiting I asked (I think I asked) if she would help me with the job. Four hours and three trips to Home Depot later we installed the last paver. But, the quality of work was good and the driveway looks a lot better.
Roberta, and I, take pride in her light pole flower garden. The vibrant spring flowers give our yard an inviting, bright glow that makes one want to remain out of doors. A lot of work, a lot of enjoyment!
Finally, as we prepare for the summer season, Todd, Bobby and I join thousands (millions?) of musicians across the country in playing Taps on Memorial Day to honor our troops, veterans, and heroes long gone. The program is called "Taps across America" ; it was instituted in 2019; and will probably continue for a long time.
Everyone have a fun and productive summer!
We try to show some recognition for the Norwegian Independence Day, "Syttende Mai." Drivers past our home on May 17th may have recognized the Norsk flag fluttering in the wind.
One of the real joys of spending time in the south is having family and friends visit. This past year was great for entertaining and enjoying. Here is a photo montage of some of our visitors.
This Sand Hill Crane was a visitor to the entire community!
WELCOME
Grandson Bobby, at the farm for a few days between school and summer work, took a turn with our Farmall C and belly mower and helped shape up the farm yard.
