And then there was fencing.  Bobby learned how to handle barbed wire.

Bobby tries out life on the farm

WELCOME

The Month of May, 2020, was very eventful for our home.  After returning from Florida in the middle of March because of the impending Covid-19 pandemic we self-isolated through April on the farm.   With only occasional trips to the grocery store we enjoyed the mostly nice weather and worked on our lawn, music, and reading.

Then in early May, grandson Bobby Trooien Isbell, who was finishing his Junior year studies at St. Olaf College, from home, decided he needed some time away from the big city (Hamel, MN).  He asked if he could spend some time on the farm, finish his school assignments, take his tests on-line, and isolate with the old folks.   Of course the answer was yes!

Following is a pictorial review of some of the activities Bobby, Roberta, and I found to occupy our time together.  My hat is off to the cook (Roberta) who kept us well fed and happy.

Inger, Bobby's mom, came out from Hamel to spend a day at the farm, to play some golf and visit from a self-distancing vantage point.

Bobby' St. Olaf baseball season was cancelled but he got a call  informing him that the Hamel Hawks were starting small group workouts next week.  Son Todd and I went with Bobby to the Hendricks diamond and had a very lively infield workout.

Bobby's summer job began on June 1.  He left the farm at 10:00 AM to report for duty as a campaign worker in Minneapolis.  The farm got way too quiet but we had a great 3 weeks on which to reflect.  Good luck Bobby and thanks for the fun.

Last, but not least,  Bobby and I worked up a set of fiddle duets.  Here is our rendition of "Liberty."

Golf on the Hendricks course also brought us some male comaraderie.  Todd and I play in the men's league (as a team) and Bobby has played it many times.  On this day Bobby was checking his phone for a certain final grade from St. Olaf.  On hole #3 he made a great approach shot and ended up having a short birdie putt.  And, at that moment, the message came from Northfield that his final grade was an A! Serendipity!

Bobby and Roberta put flowers on her parents graves and Bobby and Phil  decorate his parents graves.
